My heart aches for our nation.
And so, as we approach another rancorous election day, I can only find it in myself to share a prayer: A plea for solidarity, for engaging our higher selves and our better angels—as well as angels beyond our seeing, whose wisdom and guidance we so desperately need.
Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf education, as well as many other heart-centered movements, once offered this “Verse for America,” and it resonates deeply with me. Perhaps it will with you, too. It is the only thing I feel I can share today that captures my longing.
Sometime within the next 24 hours, may we each take a break from polarized newsfeeds and crisis-peddling media to sit in silence, meditating for a moment upon a vision of our country in which our hearts are once again filled with love for our fellow citizens.
Hope still shines brightly where the heart moves rightly.
Verse for America
May our feeling penetrate
To the center-point of our hearts
And seek, in love, to unite itself
With human beings of like goal
And with spirit beings, full of grace
Who strengthen us from realms of light
And illuminate our love while gazing down
On our earnest heart-felt striving.
